How to check a 4D result

A step-by-step walkthrough of checking Magnum, Sports Toto and Da Ma Cai numbers against official channels, and the mistakes people make when comparing tickets.

Checking a 4D ticket looks trivial: compare your number against the numbers drawn. In practice, almost every "I thought I won" and "I thought I lost" comes from a mistake made in that one step. Here is an order of operations that is hard to get wrong.

1. Confirm the draw first, the numbers second

A ticket only counts for the draw it was bought for. The same four digits coming up on a different date has nothing to do with the slip in your hand.

Before comparing anything, check three things:

  1. The draw date printed on the ticket
  2. The draw number printed on the ticket
  3. Which operator you actually bought from

Every draw on this site shows both the date and the draw number, precisely so this step can be ticked off item by item.

2. Compare all four digits, one at a time

A 4D number is always four digits. Most people glance and decide, but these pairs are very easy to misread at speed:

  • 0008 and 0080
  • 0567 and 0576
  • 1010 and 1001

Read the digits out left to right rather than matching the shape of the number. And if there is a zero in front, pay attention — a leading zero is part of the number and cannot be dropped.

3. Work through the prize tiers in order

The correct order is:

  1. First, second and third prize — one number each
  2. Special — ten numbers
  3. Consolation — ten numbers

Plenty of tickets get thrown away after a quick look at the first prize alone. The same number appearing in the Special or Consolation list is still a win, just a smaller one. Read the whole page before deciding.

4. Look at the data status

Every draw on this site carries a status:

  • Waiting — no numbers published yet
  • Partial — only some tiers have arrived
  • Provisional — numbers received but not yet verified
  • Verified / Final — safe to rely on
  • Corrected — a wrong number was published and has been fixed

If the status is anything other than "final", confirm against the operator's own announcement before acting on it — especially before making a claim.

5. Once you have checked

  • You won: protect the ticket, note the claim deadline, and read "How to claim a 4D prize".
  • You did not: keep the ticket until the claim period for that draw closes, in case a number is corrected afterwards.
